At the 140 Twitter Conference yesterday, Alex Payne, Twitter’s API lead told Robert Scoble that Twitter might soon add location-based information to every tweet. Currently, users can set a location on their profile, but individual tweets are not geo-coded in any way. If Twitter did indeed add a geo-references to every tweet, then that would open up the door to a wealth of new possibilities for developers. Google is rumored to be in talks with microblogging phenomenon Twitter on acquiring the latter. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch reported that news sources mentioned about Google’s interest in acquiring Twitter. Furthermore, it was rumored that Google was in “last-stage talks” to buy Twitter.

Twitter today updated the replies feature and it will be now referred as Mentions as @replies page will now be displayed as @username and will feature not only the tweetsstarting with your @username but also the tweets that mention you anywhere in the body…
