Have you ever been watching a funny video on YouTube and decided halfway through that you must share it with your orkut friends? Previously, you had to go to your orkut “favorite videos” page and copy-and-paste the video URL to post these clips. Now you can share videos on orkut directly from YouTube! Click on the orkut logo under the video you are watching on YouTube, and you’ll be taken directly to your “favorite videos” page on orkut. The URL of the video you’re watching will already be loaded, so all you need to do is hit “add video” to post. Now that it’s easier than ever, go ahead and share videos with your friends on orkut.

I am very sorry readers for not posting for quite a long time as i was busy with my final exams{result is out and i got 8.3 sgpa} and project and now training… but now i’ll try to post regularly…

Here are some of the recent top technical stories….

Google’s New Favicon

This is one of the smaller changes to Google – at least if measured in pixels! Google changed their “Favicon.ico”, the 16×16 image file that usually shows in the browser address bar or in bookmarks. The old icon used a square with red, green and blue edges, wrapping an upper-case “G”. The new logo is a bit more open, showing just the lower-case blue “g” from the Google logo, without borders, and a bit of shadow.

Google Sites Available Without Google Apps

Now you can use Google Sites without having a domain. “A few months ago we launched Google Sites exclusively as part of Google Apps for companies and organizations that wanted to use the service on their own domains. Now we’ve made it easy for anyone to set up a website to share all types of information — team projects, company intranets, community groups, classrooms, clubs, family updates, you name it — in one place, for a few people, a group or the world,” says Andrew Zaeske on the Google Blog.

Internet Explorer 8 Coming in August

Microsoft said yesterday it is planning on releasing yet another test version (Beta 2) of its Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) Web browser in August.
In March this year, the company released IE 8 Beta 1 offering Web developers/designers a preview of the latest iteration of its popular Web browser.

orkut Themes

When orkut doesn’t borrow features from Facebook, it gets inspired by other Google services. This time, orkut added themes, but not all the users can see the new option. The themes should be familiar, since most of them were created for iGoogle. When you select a theme, only you and your friends can see it in your profile page.
Will Gmail Get Themes?
A source is telling me that Gmail will get themes – custom layouts to personalize Google’s web mail client. According to the source, the launch of this may happen within the next months. There will be 12 themes to pick from, according to this information, like a black-and-green “terminal” view, as well as a flowery view.

Orkut Adds Photo Tagging feature

Orkut have just added a photo tagging feature. This allows you to tag the photos of other users in your profile or other’s profile. The tagged photos will then be visible in the profile page next to the messages field.

Cool Features in Firefox 3

If you decide to upgrade from Firefox 2 to the first release candidate of Firefox 3, you’ll notice an improved performance, less memory leaks, a revamped interface and some very interesting new features:* select discontinuous text - press Ctrl while selecting different blocks of text, like you can do in Microsoft Office

Everday i think about posting an entry about orkut… but the moment i start writing orkut introduces a new feature..

it startded with launch of apps in Estonia then apps went live in India… some of these apps are really cool but being a facebook user i still expect a lot from orkut apps…

Then came the new status box just above your scrap count in orkut profile… which is just like putting your twitter update in ‘My bloglog’ or any other site… oh yeah i remember google also bought jaiku but haven’t used it till now so there can e a possibility that google can integrate jaiku with orkut… but thats just my assumption..
This box is a cool feature but everytime you have to change your status you have to open your own profile, I think this box should also be placed in our home page so that we can update it there…

Hey do you know orkut has also increased our album limit well you can now post 10000 images but a maximum of 100 per album.
& just in>>>> you can now comment on each others photographs and these comments will be visible at the bottom of your profile…

UPDATE>> i almost forgot to mention some other new features like now you can also rearrange pics in an album just like picasa… n also orkut now has a mobile(low bandwidth) site also just redirect your mobile browser to m.orkut.com and enjoy orkut!!!

New> orkut has included rediff in the find your friends drop down menu but yahoo is still missing details…

Accidently discovered> orku.com is blocked in our university and since they are installing a new server subdomains of orkut are not blocked and you’ll be surprise to know that images.orkut.com acts as a tunnling site for orkut… yes by opening images.orkut.com you can use orkut just as normally as you use orkut.com

Will update this entry if i find anything new…

Have you ever wanted to check if your buddy responded to your scrap about this evening’s plans, but not been close to a computer? Do you wish you could pass the time on your long commute home by browsing through your friends’ profiles?

Fret no more - if you have a web-enabled phone and a data plan, just point your mobile web browser to http://m.orkut.com, and stay connected to your friends anytime, anywhere.

We understand that oftentimes your phone’s data network isn’t as fast (or as cheap) as your computer’s, so in designing orkut for mobile, we focused on offering the features that are most useful when you’re on the move, instead of replicating all the desktop features. For example, we’ve made it easy to send, receive, and respond to scraps on our mobile interface so that you can step away from your computer and have conversations on the go. From your phone, simply click the new “Reply” link to respond directly to a scrap from your friend. You can also read recent updates from your friends, view upcoming birthdays, look up and add friends, and accept friend requests.

After you try out orkut for mobile, we’d love to hear what you think. From the http://m.orkut.com homepage, click on the “help” link at the bottom of the screen to send us your feedback.

Happy mobile orkuting!
