Windows 7 RC and XP given extensions on life well into 2010
Whether or not Windows 7 does launch in October as previously suggested, those who have (or plan to get) Release Candidate will be happy to hear that Microsoft won’t be pulling the plug until June 1, 2010, well over a year from now and 11 months after its initial expiration date. After that, you’re gonna have to fork over the Benjamins for one of the retail SKUs if you wanna keep 7 alive. As for those still living in Redmond’s past, the company’s also extended the life of XP, at least for OEMs. Companies using the older OS will still be able to install it on netbooks for up to one year after 7′s official shape date. Seeing as the new system’s likely to have a more expensive licensing fee, it’s probably the best move if the company plans on keeping that 96% grip on the netbook OS market.

Windows Mobile 6.5 to officially "launch" on May 11

Well hey — it looks like Windows Mobile 6.5 will arrive a little earlier than expected. A post on the WinMo team blog says that the update to Redmond’s smartphone platform will officially launch on May 11, the first day of the Tech Ed conference. We’re figuring that could mean we’ll see the gold build demoed for the very first time, seeing how the version showed off at the glamorous MWC launch was described as an “alpha” cut. Of course, after that it’s all up to the carriers and handset manufacturers as to when we’ll actually see the OS loaded onto devices, but we’re sure the hacking community will find a way to satiate the impatient until then — or until Windows Mobile 7 comes out.

Windows Live Team has announced that it rolled out POP3 access of Hotmail to all the users across the globe. They have been rolling out this feature for a while and now everyone has got the POP3 access finally.

Asus and Microsoft working an Eee-targeted version of Windows 7?

So now that the nine-inch Eee is officially available with Windows XP pre-installed, people are wondering the obvious — why XP and not Vista, since XP is being discontinued in June and Vista can kinda-sorta be made to run on an Eee? The answer, direct from Microsoft, is both obvious and a little surprising: Given the Eee’s “other requirements,” Asus and Microsoft “couldn’t go the Vista route,” presumably because the Eee doesn’t really have the horsepower for it. Sure, but what caught our interest was that Microsoft is “in close discussions with Asus [regarding] how to take that forward… in regards to the Windows 7 Europe timeframe.” Windows 7, you’ll recall, has that lean new kernel, which would presumably make building a stripped-down version specifically for Eee-class machines easier — but the last we heard, Windows 7 wasn’t due until at least mid-2009 (and possibly not until 2011), so either Microsoft is planning to continue shipping XP after June or Windows 7 is coming much earlier than we thought. Our money is on XP continuing to soldier on, but here’s hoping.

Windows 2 Linux Again!!!
![]()
Well 2 days back i got my new 160gb hard disk increasing the total storage to 240gb and the first thing i wanted to do was to install Linux again…

ok ppl after a 3hrs wait i downloaded the windows xp sp3 rc (336mb) n very quickly i installed it…
bt after the restart to my surprise my flyakite osx theme ws gone… bt the transformation pack traces were still visible… after some googling i realized dt it ws sp3′s uxtheme.dll that ws responsible.. so i removed osx transformation pack n downloaded the vista transformation pack 8.01 which ac. to users is compatible with xp-sp3 but evrytime i started the installation setup crashed.. ds ws due to intel graphics driver so i uninstalled it n installed a standby dell graphics driver i got from net n then i installed vtp 8.01 bt still same problem transformation done but no vista theme.. problem:-uxtheme.dll not supported on this os… then after some more search i got a soln.. i downloaded the patched uxtheme.dll file for my version of xp-sp3 release candidate n now hw to use it manually.. first rename uxtheme.backup in system32 to _uxtheme.backup dn rename uxtheme.dll to _uxtheme.dll n nowpaste the patched uxtheme.dll in this folder n yehhh… vista visual themes are back….
so now i hv vtp 8.01 on my xp-sp3 rc….
