So you’ve finally decided to change your webmail service and migrate to Gmail, but you don’t want to lose your old messages and the address book. Gmail offers a mail fetcher feature that works with all mail services that support POP, including Hotmail, but you can’t use it for regular Yahoo Mail accounts.
Due to incidents such as the hacking of Sara Palin’s email last year and others like it, Yahoo is refining their password recovery process. The incident last year is a perfect example of how security is compromised in the simplest of ways usually. One doesn’t need to have access to encryption/decryption tools or proxies to intercept https packets. To hack into Yahoo mail, at least until recently, one only needs Wikipedia and Google. Check out the explanation from the culprit himself as to how he hacked into Sara Palin’s email using the password recovery wizard of Yahoo. Yahoo! has finally announced a separate Yahoo! Messenger for the iPhone platform. This Instant Messaging application is available for ‘free’ from the Apple’s App Store. Earlier, Yahoo! Messenger was usable under the Yahoo! application for iPhone, but under the ‘More’ option.
Adobe announced that it provided some its Flash technology to Google and Yahoo in order to improve the indexing of SWF files and especially Flex applications. “Although search engines already index static text and links within SWF files, RIAs and dynamic web content have been generally difficult to fully expose to search engines because of their changing states.”
The newfound bonhomie between Yahoo & Google is not just about AdSense, the two companies are connecting their popular IM clients as well.
That means you no longer require any third-party hacks to chat with your Yahoo! Messenger friends using Google Talk and vice-versa.
In June 2000, Google became the default search engine provider for Yahoo. The agreement lasted until 2004, when Yahoo launched its own search engine. Yahoo realized that you can actually make money from search, so it acquired Overture, a company specialized in pay-per-click advertising that also owned two search engines: AltaVista and AlltheWeb. Unfortunately for Yahoo, it moved too slowly and Google became the leader in both search and PPC advertising.
Yahoo released a new type of search result for India called “Glue Page.” Instead of the usual text listing, some queries – like blog, einstein or asthma – will now trigger a comprehensive and very visual result page. This page contains different elements laid out in boxes; there’s “normal” search results, encyclopedic information from health sites or Wikipedia, news results, YouTube videos or Google blog search results (yes, they’re integrating results from competitors, though Google is also a partner of Yahoo in some areas) and more.
